Maryam did her LL.B (Hons) in 2005 and went on to complete her bar at law from the Inns of Court School of Law in 2008. She is a member of the Honourable Society of Lincoln's Inn.

Ms. Khan is an advocate of the High Court. She specializes in service and labour laws, banking laws, company laws, law of property, family law, constitutional law, Laws of transport, intellectual property law, consumer protection law and various other civil litigation matters. Ms. Khan was part of the team that handled the case involving Agritech's restructuring of the creditor's liability. She has a range of experience in drafting petitions and rendering opinions.

Ms. Khan is the director (independent) at the Punjab Board of Investment and Trade, she is also the provincial election commissioner at the Pakistan Football Federation.

She is an adjunct faculty member of the Nadira Hassan Law Department at Kinnaird College for Women and also at the Quaid-e-Azam Law. She was the Vice-Chairperson for the Gender Equality Committee at the Lahore High Court Bar Association.

She was appointed as Amicus Curiae by the Honourable Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court in the case of Abdullah Malik v. Asim Hafeez, Civil Judge Islamabad, to assist the court on alleviating child labour, by the Honourable Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court in the case of Shahzain Khan Mandokhel v. Federal Government through Ministry of Interior, Islamabad to assist the court on the Constitutional right of citizens in terms of human dignity and by the Honourable Mr. Justice Shaan Gul in the case of Sumera Mehmood v. IG Police Involving gender equality and equal protection of rights. She was the master of ceremonies at the National Conference held at the Supreme Court of Pakistan hosted by the Law and Justice Commission in July 2023 'Resilient Pakistan: Calibrating Population and Resources".

Ms. Khan has worked diligently for women’s empowerment and gender equality in the legal sector, she has conducted conferences and workshops to raise awareness against gender-based violence, working in close coordination with gender-based violence courts & judges. She was the Co-organiser of the Violence Against Women conference hosted by UN-Women in association with LEARN, she was part of the “Equality is the State of Mind” conference hosted by LEARN, and the conference “Understanding Harassment” hosted by LEARN at the Lahore High Court in 2018. She is a core team member at LEARN (Lahore Education and Research Network) and she is also a core team member of the network called Women in Law, spearheaded in achieving gender equality in the legal sector.
